The soloist in Dvořák’s Concerto in B minor, a piece of music loved by cellists all over the world, will be Camille Thomas, in Prague for the first time. Magical, convincing, charming, vigorous and optimistic … That’s how reviewers describe the playing of the young French–Belgian musician, the international discovery of 2014. For a completely Czech programme of the evening, one can then hardly imagine a more appropriate climax to the festival than that offered by the festive and celebratory fanfares of the Sinfonietta, with which Leos Janáček drew a permanent mark of the joy from freedom that came in 1918 with the establishment of Czechoslovakia.
